Prayer Shawl Ministry
May God's grace be upon this shawl, warming, comforting, enfolding and embracing.
May this mantle be a safe haven, a sacred place of security and well-being sustaining and embracing in good times as well as difficult ones.
May the one who receives this shawl be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace, and wrapped in love. Blessed Be!
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets once a month for fellowship, inspiration for our knitting and crocheting projects, and ideas for social service. Most often, we knit or crochet shawls, lap blankets, baby blankets and scarves to give to others as warm and comforting reminders of God’s love and our prayers. We provide members with yarn, patterns, assistance, and good humor.
The items we make are blessed by Pastor Carol and distributed by the Caring Ministry to those in need of our love and support.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry also contributes to a number of social ministry programs outside of Calvary:
• chemo sleep caps for patients at the Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center in Elizabeth.
• scarves and watch caps for The Church Seamen’s Institute which gives them to mariners at sea during the holidays.
• scarves and fleece blankets for Operation Warm Heart, a program sponsored by the Presbyterian Church in Cranford that provides food, shelter, and personal items to those in need.
• baby hats and booties for Emily’s Hats for Hope, an organization in Morristown which distributes hats, scarves and other items to the working poor.
Our group welcomes anyone interested in the loving, creative work we do in God's name. Don’t know how to knit or crochet? No problem – we will teach you. If you have questions, contact the church office, or watch for our announcements in Sunday Times and drop by to see us at work.
